Baseball cards have been around nearly as long as organized baseball. The earliest baseball cards were produced in 1886, and the manufacture and distribution of baseball (and other sports) cards continued uninterrupted until World War II. News reports have brought attention to the multimillion-dollar Honus Wagner and Mickey Mantle cards, but the story of baseball cards goes far beyond the big stars and big dollars. This course will introduce the amazing variety and beauty of the national pastime’s favorite companion.
