Event Details

Snook Haven, Smack Dab on the Myakka River, at 5000 East Venice Avenue, Venice, is a perfect setting for this annual festival venue. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to Venice Challenger Baseball and Friends of Sarasota County Parks.

Festival headliner, Bryan Lee, is a 2010 Grammy Nominee, 2011 BMA Recipient, and is referred to as a "Living Legend," New Orleans Blues Institution," and as your "Braille Blues Daddy." Originally from Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Bryan lost his eye sight and was legally blind by the age of eight. He has been playing the blues consistently for over 50 years now to fans all over the world, and will be taking the stage at this year’s 50th Annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. “Whether he’s wailing a Freddy King inspired blues ballad, stomping out low down and dirty blues, or getting down with a super funky New Orleans groove, Bryan Lee is gonna grab your soul and squeeze it till you scream in blues ecstasy,” says blues artist Duke Robillard.

Kicking off this year’s festival is the Kat Crosby Band, described as sophisticated blues with a hint of jazz and hot guitar. The music is a mix of fresh, modern blues, a dash of jazz, and always with the attitude of “laissez les bon temps roulez!” which translates to “let the good times roll!” Kat has played festivals and other venues in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona over the last 20 years. She has performed many times at the La Vina Wine Festivals as well as The Silver City Blues Festival, The Ruidoso Blues Festival, The Tucson Blues Festival, and The Socorro Music Festival.

Playing later in the afternoon, Nitro Bozeman will be joining Sarasota Slim for a must see blues performance. A returning festival favorite of the Myakka River Blues Fest, Sarasota Slim has been part of the Tampa Bay blues scene for decades and he brings a mix of classic R&B and soul to the stage. Known as “Lil Red” in Chicago, Nitro is one mean boxer and harmonica player, who has been playing in front of audiences since the young age of 7.
