Bill Hartman is a monumental contributor to the Sarasota visual arts community. A soft-spoken man, Bill (William) wears many hats and wears them well. He is an art dealer and sole owner of the William Hartman Gallery on Palm Avenue, which has flourished for over 40 years. He is an archival frame maker, a historian, collector, and cataloguer of Florida artists with a specialty in the Sarasota Artists Colony. His father was William Hartman, artist, teacher, and founder of the Hartman School of Art. His mother Marty, an artist and teacher, was the founder of the Petticoat Painters. Bill is also a founding member of the Sarasota Art Museum. Bill describes his mother as an amateur archivist, saving everything from photos, newspaper clippings, and Christmas cards that were handmade by the members of the Artists’ Colony. Growing up in the ‘60s, Bill was in the center of this exciting world of art. He has documented this time period with an exciting presentation. Join us for a captivating art talk where Bill will share first-hand what it was like living in the world of the Sarasota Artists Colony.
