Description
Afternoon Abstract Self Portraits on Black Paper Class
Event Details
Look at yourself in a new and dynamic way with this introductory drawing and mixed media class. What better subject than SELF PORTRAITURE? Drawing and painting an image of yourself can be anything you want it to be. The metaphors we find in delving into the practice of self portraiture can be fun, enlightening and even perhaps can help you with some basic problem-solving skills. When we consider who we are, and how we choose to represent ourselves, in a completely abstracted way, we allow ourselves a beautiful vulnerability in self expression.
Portraiture on Black Paper is also perhaps a different way to work for many of us. So many times we are faced with a blank white canvas. Utilizing black felted paper (roofing paper) we are able to work large scale on a fairly versatile and hefty surface.
*PLEASE BRING A PRINTED PHOTO/IMAGE OF YOURSELF FOR REFERENCE* All materials provided including a 24"x36" piece of black felted paper, stapled to the wall. Acrylic paint, chalk and oil pastels. Students will either work at the wall either standing or sitting, which ever is more comfortable.
About the studio:
Welcome to Laurie Maves Guglielmi's Sarasota studio, "the 11th Orange," located at 11th and Orange in downtown Sarasota, Florida. Laurie selected this space as it has two brightly lit large classrooms with high ceilings that can be completely dedicated to large scale abstract painting and arts and expressive therapies and workshops. Her classes are often termed as “experiences” in hopes this is not a typical group painting class that you may have encountered or participated in the past. This 2 hour event has been designed specifically for individuals with minimal to some painting experience. But if you have a great deal of experience you're also most welcome to give our studio a try.
