Description
The Festival brings you one of the most eclectic evenings of music you’ll hear anywhere.
Event Details
Masterworks by Beethoven and Brahms share the program with the music of jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, one of our time’s geniuses, whose Meeelaan for bassoon and string quartet opens the concert. With movements titled “Blues,” “Tango,” and “Bebop,” Marsalis has infused the language of jazz into this virtuosic showpiece. Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 6 finds the composer, in the middle of his career, lovingly looking backward toward his predecessors and mentors Mozart and Haydn. The program concludes with the joyous sounds of Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 in its original orchestration for nine players. Four Festival Faculty are joined by five Festival Fellows for this work that was part of young Brahms’ preparation for writing full symphonies. A tuneful, bucolic work, the last movement will find you hard-pressed to keep from dancing in the aisles.
