When it comes to quaint and relaxed recreation destinations in the state of Florida, it's hard to go wrong with a trip to Gasparilla Island State Park in Boca Grande.

This island getaway is located at the southern tip of the Boca Grande barrier island which provides visitors from Florida and beyond with an assortment of activities ranging from swimming to snorkeling, hiking, biking, and more.

The main attraction at Gasparilla Island State Park, though, is the famous Boca Grande Lighthouse which was built back in 1890, making it the oldest structure on the island.  The lighthouse still works as a beacon for mariners and also houses a museum detailing its history.

This small piece of restored Florida history is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily and on Sundays from noon to 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays and select dates.

In addition to the Boca Grande Lighthouse, Gasparilla Island State Park boasts an assortment of recreational opportunities for adventure seekers of all ages.  Take a dip in the warm gulf waters or explore while snorkeling under the surface; ride a bike and take in the beautiful island scenery, or go for a relaxed evening walk along the beach; the possibilities are aplenty.
